Real Change

You might be saying, "Wait. I'm not addicted to my emotions. That's crazy."

Here's the thing: If rehearsed over and over again, our emotions become ingrained within us and then become a part of who we are. We begin to identify ourselves with these emotions.

When we try to change, our bodies kick and scream because it's not getting its way. Your body is actually wanting that chemical rush that it expects when you feel anxiety, sadness, frustration, anger, etc. It's used to it, and it wants it right now!

And, because you don't like this feeling, and because you don't like the unknown of the new feeling, you give into those old emotions to settle it down. The cycle then continues.
You can't get off of this merry-go-round until you deliberately choose to. No matter how much kicking and screaming is going on in your internal world, you will need to consciously steer yourself back to your focus, and tell yourself you are making changes that will make you better for it.

It's like keeping a child focused on a task. When their attention veers to something else, you bring them right back to the task. This is retraining yourself to think and feel differently. This is where true change begins.

The Depths of Uncertainty (or Seeing the Upside of Shitty Situations)

Right now, we are going through a major shift in the Universe, and many of us might be feeling slightly discombobulated. I know I have.

Maybe you've seen the end of a relationship, a shake up of a job, changes in your life you weren't expecting, or perhaps you've felt that things have been stuck or stagnant for too long and, well, when is it all going to get better?

As you know, I'm a huge fan of the belief that the energy we give out is what we get back and that we create our own lives; however, I do think that we can be affected by energies around us if we aren't aware of what to do and how to settle ourselves.

But, I digress, because this post is about how to get a handle on your own feelings and emotions when faced with those people who wish to sink your cork. You may have encountered that feeling of a 'fragmented soul' when you have a fight with your spouse/significant other that seems to strip you of your energy. You feel as if they have put another dent in your beautiful heart.

As crappy as these moments are, these moments are the best times to figure out what you truly want. You can either take this moment and turn it over in your brain a thousand times, over-analyze about how much it hurt you, or, you can decide that the other person, as idiotic as you think they are in that moment, is most likely just as afraid as you are.

Change is frightening, and to think that your relationship might be on the brink of destruction will make you grab hold of anything to achieve some sort of balance. Your significant other isn't feeling anything different from you. Just like you, they fear losing control of the situation or that things will change too fast for their liking. Maybe they don't like how the relationship is going and where it's headed, and they don't know how to stop this collision course that it's on.

Just like you, they want change, but they may be fearful to make the change. Or maybe they don't know how to make the change. There's always a lot of work involved when trying to make a difference in your life, which could mean changing belief systems, or changing marital statuses. There is no denying it--these relationship shake-ups are huge.

First, you can't control how other people act. You can only control how you feel and how you act. The other person will always do what they are aligned with, no matter how much you try to control the situation.

When faced with shitty situations such as these, you must redirect your focus. No, it's not putting your head in the sand. It's called thinking outside that box that is already full of stress and sadness.
It's time to get a better view of things, because you can't solve a problem with the same thinking that created it.

So, what is it you want for yourself? Happiness? Stability? Better living situation? Love?
Saying things like, "I want her/him to change" is not the answer because a) You will be sadly disappointed when you realize that you can't make anyone change, and b) You have to accept responsibility for your own actions. Every relationship has two sides to the story.

To make deep changes, you have to start with yourself. You have to look at your role in all of this. What have you been attracting? What have you been thinking and feeling? Have you been loving yourself? Have you been kind to yourself? To others?

You have to understand that the love and respect you seek is within yourself.

So, how do you affect change so these shitty things are few and far between? How do you get on the same page with your spouse? Well, first off, you may or may not get on the same page as your spouse because this is all about vibrational alignment. So, to get change, you have to take a good look at yourself and how you treat you. How do you feel about you? How do you feel about the world? What energy are you sending out there?

We are creatures of habit. We may not even be aware of the vibration that we are sending out because it's become a part of us. But, unknown to you, that vibration could be holding you back. When you've become so accustomed to disagreements with your spouse, you have now made it a dominant vibration--a habit. And, it'll keep happening till you change your vibration about it.

Your spouse has to make the effort too....and they have to want to make an effort. Once you start changing your vibration, they will either match up to your new vibe or they will no longer be a part of your life...it's up to them.

When these shitty things happen, they are a wake up call to you. Notice them. Embrace them. Yes, they happened and they were really freaking shitty. You don't like being in that ugly place, and every time it happens, you feel you lose another part of yourself.

But, here's the thing, you can decide in that moment, right then and there, that you don't want to feel this way anymore.

How?

You become aware of what you are thinking and feeling. You become so attuned to your body and emotions, start adjusting those thoughts and feelings, that change starts to happen.

It will take effort, it will take some creative thinking, and it will take time.
But, dear beautiful friends, your happiness is worth the effort.

Namaste.

Getting What You Want

Here's a question: Why aren't you getting what you want?

It’s because your focus is off. Couple that with not believing that you can have what you want, and also your negative emotions, and suddenly, you are creating things you don't want.

If you could pay attention to a large portion of your thoughts and feelings throughout the day (I know, there are at least 60000 thoughts per day, so don’t stress yourself out if you don’t catch every single one of them.), you would begin to see things change.

What we think about we bring about. While many people may dispute that this isn’t the case at all, and that they’ve been thinking positively most of the time.... like, for about a week.... what it comes down to is your vibration, the one that you've been carrying around for a very long time. You are used to it, and you don't even realize the frequency you are giving off because it is a part of you, and it will be a part of you until you decide to change it.

But, it takes time. Think of it as a muscle. When you go to the gym to work out, you aren’t going to see results in only 10 reps of arm curls or 20 squats, are you? No. It takes time to build muscle mass. But, if you go to the gym 3 times per week and consistently do your workout, you will start to see the muscles becoming more defined.

Apply this analogy to your thinking. Your thoughts are just that...thoughts. They hold no real weight except for the importance that you give them.

Here's the disclaimer: thoughts and emotions can become things. You could be thinking a positive thought right now, but, if you are still feeling negatively, you won’t get anywhere.

Thoughts and emotion go hand in hand. If your thought process is one of seeing the outcome you want, but your feelings are negative, you won’t get what you truly desire. You'll just keep going in circles, recreating the same thing.  Oh, sure, you may experience some up swings, but the peaks and dips will be huge.

What you want is a smoother ride with the occasional bump in the road. Why do you want the bump in the road? That’s the contrast. That’s where you expand even further. If you were always on a smooth road, you would never expand further from where you are. You would never grow. You would stay the same.

These bumps of contrast are there for you to shift your awareness. They are the wake up call for you to realize, with great clarity, of what you do not want. Once you feel that contrast, you must shift your perception to what you truly want.

If you keep focusing on the bump, you will create more bumps and bigger dips and peaks. After awhile, it becomes really annoying. You feel like you are on a crazy amusement park ride with no way of getting off.

Think the good thoughts, beautiful friends! Those are the important ones.
Namaste!

Healing the Past

The past likes to take a hold of us and make us relive it, in all its glory, in our minds and hearts. If it's a good memory, then we are golden. We love every minute of it because we can get into a good place while reminiscing, making our hearts burst with happiness and joy.

Then, there are things from the past that we regret, that we wish we could change. We relive those memories with remorse, beating ourselves up time and again.
Why didn't I do what I should have done?
Why did I say that?
Why was I so stupid?

There is this constant dialogue, usually on a daily basis, about how we could have done something differently; how we could have not hurt that person. Or, why did we waste so much time on trying to impress someone, make someone happy, when it ended badly? So many regrets of things we cannot change.

What burden have you been carrying for a long time? Has it served you? Has it helped you at all? If you have been hanging onto a past burden, and it has not propelled you forward allowing you to live happily and joyfully, then it is time to let it go. Adversity should only be a small portion of our brilliant lives. We should acknowledge the contrast as an opportunity for more growth, not as an excuse to beat ourselves up for the rest of our lives.

You can't change the past. The events that occurred have already happened. You can wish them undone, but it will always be. However, you can heal the past:

1) Send love to those you feel you've hurt. No need for excuses. Just send love.
2) Send love to the situation.
3) Realize in every moment you are making yourself better and better. The contrasting experience has made you more aware of what you truly want.
4) Send love and forgiveness to yourself. No matter what has happened, you need to forgive and love yourself.
5) Realize that you did what you could with the knowledge and resources you had in that moment. We are born perfectly imperfect. We are here to grow and experience. And we will continue to grow and experience the rest of our lives. Enjoy it!
5) Look forward and take the next step. Don't look back; you aren't going that way.

Remember, what has happened in the past has made you stronger, has given you clarity, and has made you an even better person than you have ever been. Thank the past for coming along and giving you the things you have experienced.

Most importantly, thank yourself for gaining the clarity you needed to help you take the next step to where you want to go.

Just like Bagger Vance said in the Legend of Bagger Vance, "You've been carrying this burden long enough. Time to go on.... lay it down."

Lay down your burdens and keep moving forward, Beautiful Souls!

Namaste.

The Past Has No Power

Rick Warren, author of The Purpose Driven Life said, “We are products of our past, but we don't have to be prisoners of it.”

We tend to trap ourselves in the past hoping that if we replay it over and over, the outcome will change.
But, it doesn’t.

We then proceed to chastise ourselves for making the decisions that we made, and continue to beat ourselves up, never resolving anything. It doesn’t matter what it is: it could be choosing a relationship that ended in heartbreak, or headache; or regret over the wasted years with the wrong person, and, if only we could get back that wasted time. If only time travel was possible!

They say hindsight is always 20/20. If only we knew then what we know now, things would be different. Better choices would have been made. Happier choices.

Or, maybe, we have been the person doing the mistreating and disrespecting, and the memory of this plays over and over in our minds. No one really means to hurt another; it usually means we are wounded ourselves.

Whatever it is, we feel replaying the past is helpful. But, it isn’t.

If you have to look back at the past, at least do it with loving eyes. You were making choices based on what you knew at the time and where you were in your life. Know that the past is in the past and has no power in the present…. unless you give it power. If you hurt someone, send them light and love. If someone hurt you, send them light and love. And then send light and love to yourself. Realize that the past doesn’t dictate the future, and these past events happen to offer us contrast. The more we know what we don’t want, the more we know what we do want. These are the lovely moments of growth.

Past events should evolve us into a better person, and help us to become clearer at what we want in relationships and out of life. These life moments are where we begin to respect and love ourselves more.

An excellent article you might want to read is called Bargaining With Your Past Creates Regret in the Present by Suzanne Lachmann.

“People are all over the world telling their one dramatic story and how their life has turned into getting over this one event. Now their lives are more about the past than their future.”

The Most Important Thing....

There are hundreds of topics to choose from when writing about relationships; but the most important of them all is: The Love of Self.

This is a huge one. We tend to grow through life not loving ourselves enough, hoping that someone else will fill that need for us, and love us into loving ourselves. Or, hoping we become lovable enough if we are loved. But, what if that person leaves? Then what? Do we once again become unlovable?

This is why loving yourself first is so very important. Before you get into that relationship, before you sign yourself up for online dating website, or before you consider speed dating, love yourself first.

What it means to love yourself:
Lately, you may have heard the buzz about loving yourself. Everyone may nod their heads in agreement, but does anyone take any action when it comes to loving themselves fully?

Maybe giving yourself some downtime, or buying yourself something nice is loving yourself. Or possibly taking time for an occasional massage or pedicure, nice meal or vacation.

Love of self means something different to everyone;  but, at the basis of it, loving yourself means respect. It means understanding your needs and wants. It means caring enough for yourself to never mistreat yourself or let others mistreat you. It means that, no matter what, caring for yourself, your body, mind and spirit is at the top of the list.

It also means looking in the mirror everyday and being kind to yourself. Looking in the mirror being happy with what you see. It’s getting up in the morning and not having those negative thoughts pervade you for the next 14 hours; those thoughts about how you aren’t enough, or why didn’t you do that thing you should have done, or why didn’t you exercise, or why did you eat those cookies? Why did you spend that money?

It’s getting up everyday and saying, 'I’m great'. 'I’m perfect just the way I am.' 'I accept me and I’m accepting of me.' This doesn’t mean that, if you want to grow and evolve in body, mind, and spirit, you can’t. It’s about making peace with what is happening right in this moment, and say, 'It’s okay. Just keep going.'

When my children were learning to walk, I never berated them for not knowing how to do it on their first try. I encouraged them if they fell down, and told them it's okay, and to try again.

This should be the same with how we treat ourselves. It’s okay. Just try again. You will get there. Love yourself and who you are right now. Love yourself no matter what. When we love ourselves, that love will shine through for the world to see.

Every day and in every single moment, we all have the power to choose differently.
