Honouring Your Feelings - Respecting Yourself

Happy Self Love Sunday!

I can't say this enough: Honouring our feelings is imperative to living a beautiful life. If we ignore them or we don't speak our truth, then we aren't respecting ourselves.

Your feelings are important.
Expressing our emotions releases energy and leaves room for positive energy to enter.
This is your Soul Love Minute.

The Importance of Expressing Emotion

Happy Self Love Sunday!

By expressing your emotions, you are releasing energy that has been building up for a really long time.

If you are inspired to express emotion to someone else, then do so. It's not your problem they aren't ready to hear it yet.

By holding onto these emotions, they will become a habit and situate themselves in your body.
Release them to make room for better things.

This is your Soul Love Minute.

Sensuality and Relationships

Recently, I was pondering the word 'sensuality'. What does it mean and what is the difference between being sexy and sensual?

When thinking about sensuality, think juicy, delicious, full, and all encompassing. It's employing all of the senses, meaning that it goes beyond the physical.

It's everything: touch, taste, sound, expression--inside and out. It means body, mind, and spirit are one, blossoming into a beautiful and fully aware experience.

Think of a juicy ripe peach and all of the senses that play in the role in the consuming of it--full and lovely.

Sensuality is tuning into all of your senses. It's not only about experiencing all of your senses sexually but within the entire world and what is going on around you. It's mindfulness. It's experiencing life on all levels.

With relationships and life, we get caught up in the mundane, in the day to day activities. We go through the motions, not really paying attention to the energy around us. We choose not to sense the subtle vibrations, being sucked in by whirlwind of other useless energy; energy that we have become accustomed to but doesn't really serve us.

Sensuality means employing emotions, deep emotion, something many people have turned off because it protects them from being hurt. It's easier to protect the heart instead of feeling all of those powerful emotions. But, when we put up that deep wall around our heart, we rob ourselves of experiencing something deeper.

How do we experience sensuality?

Being mindful of your sensuality is getting out of your head and into the feelings, and into the energy that is running around you and through you.

It's becoming aware, noticing, recognizing, and opening up to the pure essence of this beautiful, sensual energy. That's the key: Stay open and let it flow. Don't overthink it, just trust in the beauty of it.

Stay sensual, beautiful friends!

The Relationship Expiry Date

We've all been there: Hanging on to a relationship that clearly has past the 'Best Before Date'. For some reason, we like to hang on to things that no longer serve us. We think we will try harder or things will change for the better, and granted, they can. But, obviously, something has shifted in the vibration of the relationship and both people involved know it, even if they won't admit it.

If you've already started to detach from a relationship because it no longer works, but, you have not fully cut the cord, here are few things to consider:

  • Prolonging the inevitable will not make it easier, but harder. Think about when you have to get a project done and you delay it to the last minute. It's a struggle and you hate every second of it. But, once it's done, you feel overwhelming relief. It's like pulling off a bandage: When you do it slowly, it's extremely painful.
  • If you are trying to spare the other person's feelings, trust me, you aren't. You are only sparing your own so you don't look like the bad person. Fact is, it's more hurtful, damaging, and disrespectful when you put off what you know has to be done. The other person still believes that they are in a relationship with you. Even though they feel the pulling away, they will ignore it and still continue on.
  • You are preventing a more beautiful relationship from coming into your own life and the other person's life. That wonderful man/woman for you could be waiting to walk through that door, but you choose to keep it closed.
  • Holding on to a relationship because you feel you have to, because it's how you measure your worthiness, or because you are lonely are not valid reasons to hang on.
When you ignore the signs that the relationship has hit its expiry date and when you delay what you know in your heart to be true, you are not doing yourself any favours.

By not moving on from a relationship, when you know you should, will set up the vibration of not moving forward in other areas of your life. You will manifest a feeling of 'stuckness' or a perpetual cycle of the same scenarios, not only in your relationships, but in your career, finances, health, etc.

Resisting change causes more suffering than moving forward ever will. Keep moving forward.

Owning Your Bullshit Story

I love this quote by Elizabeth Gilbert so much that I had to do a blog post on it. It resonates deeply to how we tend to get caught up in our own bullshit story... and it usually is all bullshit.

We love to tell the story of what happened to us, why we can’t do things, how we can’t get ahead, or can’t get better. Maybe you are in a relationship out of convenience, wearing the mask that everything is awesome, but really it isn't and you've created nothing but smoke and mirrors.

We say things like ‘life is a struggle’, ‘my life is crappy’, ‘my relationship sucks’, 'I don't really need to love deeply,' or 'I can stick it out in this mediocre relationship for the next 20, 30, 40 years', or something similar.

On top of all that, we usually blame someone else for our problems. If only that person could be better, do better, act better, then things would be perfect. Unfortunately, you can’t control how others act, but you can control how you react.

As hard as this is to swallow, we are in charge of every aspect of our own lives. Unfortunately, many of us feel unworthy, undeserving, or incapable of creating what we want because we don’t believe we have the power to make our lives better.

What it comes down to is this: If your relationship sucks, then do something about it. If the other person doesn’t want to make it work, then shut that door and allow another door to open. Another door will always open...if you want it to.

You cannot go through life wishing things to be different when you already have been given the power to make things different. Don’t relinquish control to someone else because no one else is in control of your happiness but you. If you are unhappy, then decide to make yourself happy. If it means moving forward and leaving others behind, then so be it.

Some of you might say, “Easier said than done” or “Ya, but it’s difficult.”
It may be difficult but it’s not impossible. You will always have to put effort into something that is important....especially when it comes to your happiness.

Ask yourself these questions:
Where is my focus?
Am I focused on the bullshit story I’ve been telling myself for a very long time?
Am I focused on making my life the way I want it?

Abraham Hicks says not to think about something as a future thought, that it ‘will ‘ happen, but ‘become’ what you want in this moment. What does this mean? It means if you want love, feel that love right now. Become it, because the energy you send out is what you attract back to you.

Dear beautiful friends, do not fight for your limitations, because nothing is impossible.
Namaste.

Don't Shoot the Messenger: Thanking the Messengers in Our Lives

I have mentioned before that we have many great teachers in our lives (see blog post here). However, let's elaborate on this a bit more.

When we are in a love relationship, and it starts to go sour, we are keen to blame the other person due to their actions and behaviours. We try to get them to act differently, become different just so we can feel better about the relationship and ourselves.

First, we can't make anyone do anything. Second, we are the only ones that can make ourselves feel better. And, third, we are attracting these people into our lives due to our energy, because the frequencies always match up (see blog post on this here).

But, let's take this a step further. These people that come into our lives are showing us something that we need to see. So, really, they are messengers.

Maybe you have been asking yourself how you can be happier. Maybe you've been wondering how to attract a better lover because the one you have, or the ones you have had, weren't stellar. The past relationships that we have experienced, or the one that is moving on right now, help us to catch a glimpse of how we feel about ourselves. Anything less than loving is unacceptable, and it's not up to someone else to love us so we can finally love ourselves---it is all up to us.

When these messengers come into our lives to show us what we need to see, and then the relationship begins to fizzle, we desperately hang on to try to get back all those good moments from earlier. Sometimes, we hang on for years, sometimes decades, just to make it work.

This isn't to say that putting effort into a relationship by seeking counselling isn't doable. However, most of us know when the relationship is at the point of no return.

We have to recognize that moment of having enough of the same old story. We have to recognize that moment of when it's time to back away.

Take the experience of the relationship as what it is....an experience, an awakening to who you are. Don't blame. Just thank them for showing you what you needed to see, and then move on with your new found knowledge, knowing that you are getting better and better every single day.

Stay true to yourselves, beautiful people.
Namaste.

Grace and Grieving

The loss of a lover is devastating, especially when you least expect it. Constantly questioning the 'why' of it, and the 'what ifs' will only leave you more confused.

You may question if you’ll ever move on or if you will ever experience any relief from the seemingly unbearable pain in your heart. Unfortunately, relief and healing do not come all at once; it’s a one foot in front of the other type of progression. In one minute, you will be fine, and in the next, you will be sucker punched by grief as it rips your heart out.

So, how do you move on when your loved one transitions to the non-physical?

1)      Take your time with healing. Don’t let anyone tell you that it’s time to move on; only you can decide that. They do not know what you are going through, and everyone has their own pace. First and foremost, be gentle and loving with yourself.

2)      Make progress. Just like you need the time to heal, you also need to take steps, big or small, every single day toward healing. Holding yourself in a place of ‘what if’ or living in the past will only prolong your pain.

3)      Seek help. If you need someone to talk to, a counsellor, or even joining a group that will offer the healing support you need, then do it. However, make sure the group’s purpose is to heal and move forward, and not linger in pain and longing.

4)      There is always divine timing involved when a soul transitions. Consider that maybe, just maybe, it's always our individual choice, whether consciously or unconsciously, when we want to leave this earthly plane. (For further information on this, I recommend Anita Moorjani’s book “Dying to be Me.”)

5)      Understand that your lover’s physical body is the only thing that has died. We are all energy, and energy cannot be destroyed. Their energy still remains, and always will be. They are limitless, pure positive energy with no constraints.

Remember: Our loved ones are always with us. They are in the pink sunrise and in an orange sunset. They are a rainy day and a starry night. They are an October wind that whispers through the trees and they are the quiet on a peaceful summer morning. They are the gentle touch on your hand and the soft kiss on your cheek.

When you begin to understand this, you will realize that your heart will go on.

Namaste.

Tender Loving Care

There is a saying by LaShaun Middlebrooks Collier that says, "Self-care is possessing enough self-awareness to invoke repeated patterns of being, that harmoniously correct the behaviours of over-functioning for others while under-functioning for yourself.”

We all do it. We give so much to others that we haven't anything left to give to ourselves. We put other's needs before our own, while starving ourselves of some much needed attention and care.

This was an experience of mine last week where I had been available for everyone else but myself, which resulted in a melt-down. Feeling robbed of energy and not following through with some self-love, I became unable to function properly. There were things I had to do that seemed like a ton of effort; fortunately, I was able to push through because it had to be done.

How many times have you given so much of yourself, in any relationship, and were not taking care of you because you felt your needs were secondary? I'm sure there are too many to count.

We can also get stuck in the old "If I love this person a ton, they will eventually love me just as much." And then we set about the task of giving ourselves to that other person by either doing everything for them, or by loving them more than we love ourselves.

While it's true giving of ourselves is noble, there's a point where we have to remember to give to ourselves as well. It's a balancing act, but an important one. As demonstrated in my own melt-down, I wasn't giving myself the time and care I needed, and, therefore, was unable to give of myself to others.

How can you care for yourself?
First, realize that giving to yourself is important and not selfish.
Second, carve out time for yourself. If you have children, animals, or elderly parents to care for, then, yes, they need attention. That is a given. But, make sure you are finding the time for you to do what is important for your heart, your soul, and your mind. Only you know what that thing is and only you know the amount of time you can spend.
Third, make the commitment and stick to it. You are important. Your needs are important. What makes your heart sing is also important. But, one of the most important things of all is knowing who you are, and loving yourself fully.

Namaste, beautiful souls!

Stop Struggling!

I’ve been seeing a lot of quotes lately that indicate that, if there is no resistance on your journey, then you are making it too easy. If you experience some sort of struggle in whatever you are journeying towards, (career, relationship, weight loss…etc.) then there is increased worth in it.

Here are 6 words I want you to remember throughout life: There is no value in struggle.

If you are experiencing resistance/struggle, it’s because you are not aligned to your desire and you have decided to paddle upstream. Life is unfolding before you in the most beautiful way possible, and you have decided to buck your own current because you don’t believe the Universe can give you something better than what you have been getting.

Instead, we muck around thinking that pointing our boat upstream is how we get what we desire. You know that saying: Go with the flow…that’s what life is supposed to be like. You know that song, Row, Row, Row Your Boat (gently down the stream)....you get the picture.

An acquaintance of mine said this to me recently: “We project human failings and shortcomings onto the Universe, and then expect it to faff (his word) around and let us down in the same way that humans can do. Change it all with the belief I TRUST GOD/UNIVERSE TO SORT IT ALL OUT.”

Certainly, there will be contrast on our journey, but this helps us to expand even more. The point is not to wallow in the contrast because that’s when you continue to get more of the unwanted. Realize and know that you want something better than what you are getting and turn toward that. Realize and know that you deserve something better than what you are getting and turn toward that! Become vibrationally aligned with what you want, keeping in mind it may not come in the physical form that you envision; it will be even better!

It doesn’t mean that what you are doing won’t have effort involved. Of course it will! Just make it 'enjoyable effort'. Get aligned with it and make it fun. If it’s causing you pain or sadness, you’re not aligned with your desire.

Dan Millman said: “Pain is a relatively objective, physical phenomenon; suffering is our psychological resistance to what happens. Events may create physical pain, but they do not in themselves create suffering. Resistance creates suffering. Stress happens when your mind resists what is... The only problem in your life is your mind's resistance to life as it unfolds.”

I couldn’t agree more!

Namaste!

Your Enoughness

It's interesting what we will believe about ourselves when someone plants a seed in our brain. For instance, the feeling of not being enough for your significant other is a heartbreaking realization. Have you ever felt that nothing you say, do, or become will ever be enough for them?

We spend so much time trying to show this person how 'enough' we are, how worthy we are, hoping to satisfy them. We show them that we can do all of these things for them, and maybe, just maybe, we will be awarded with some modicum of gratitude and appreciation. But it's never enough.

It's truly sad and disappointing.

The fact is, it wouldn't matter how much effort you put into being 'enough', it would never be 'enough'.

So, what do you do?

1) First, realize that this is all ego. Eckhart Tolle says, "Whenever you feel superior or inferior to anyone, that is the ego in you." Ego will have you believe anything that it wants you to. It will have you believe that you are everything in one breath and nothing in the next. Take a step outside of this judgement and be the observer of this thought. The thought is just that--a thought, and it holds no weight.

2) Understand that the person you are trying to impress will never be satisfied because they are always looking for something outside themselves to make them happy. It is not your job to make them happy. It's theirs.

3) Understand that the way you feel about yourself, your enoughness or not enoughness, is compounded by continuing to feel the way you do. If you felt 'enough', you would have that reflected back onto you. No one can tell you that you are enough or not. You are the only one that can deem yourself 'enough', and you need to connect with that knowing from deep inside. It's the only way.

4) Their acknowledgement of your enoughness isn't going to make you feel like you are enough. Knowing that you are is all you need.(see #2)

5) There are loads of people in this world who will celebrate your enoughness. Find them. Those are the people you want in your life.

6) If someone doesn't see your enoughness, then this is a person you do not want in your life. They are detrimental to you living a happy and fulfilled life.

You are more than enough.
