Why We Need to Awaken the Love Within
I have spoken before about feeling the love within us and why it's so important to open our hearts not only to ourselves but to others. Love really does change things when you can give and receive it freely.
When we block ourselves from love, it can affect every aspect of our lives, which includes experiencing true happiness. But, where does true happiness begin? It begins within. It can never be found externally....well, not on a permanent basis. See previous blog on how happiness is an inside job.
Awakening the love within doesn't just affect our lives but also the lives around us; it affects those beings that need help as well.
So the story goes, if we felt the true love inside of us for ourselves, we wouldn't intentionally hurt another.
Everyday, we see lack of compassion for another being. For example, Cecil the Lion was brutally killed earlier this week due to lack of compassion for another living being. But, the world is not going to hell in a hand basket. There is way more love out there than hate. If we truly opened our eyes, we would see that love is everywhere.
So the story goes, if we felt the true love inside of us for ourselves, we wouldn't intentionally hurt another.

But, how do you awaken the love within?
- Move beyond the ego and into the heart where love resides.
- Love yourself because you can't effectively love another unless you love yourself completely. When you feel the love for yourself and recognize your own divinity, you will begin to recognize it in other beings, as well.
Stay in love, dear friends!
P.S. Check out Prairie Girl Press on Spreadshirt where $1.00 of every product sold will go to help the charity for that quarter. This quarterly's charity is Worldanimalprotection.org. World Animal Protection helps to provide programs to protect beautiful animals like Cecil the lion.

It's Groundhog Day...Again
"What would you do if you were stuck in one place and every day was exactly the same, and nothing that you did mattered?" - Phil Connors (Bill Murray), Groundhog Day
In the movie Groundhog Day, Bill Murray plays a news reporter who relives Groundhog Day over and over and over...until he experiences a shift within himself that finally moves him on to the next day, and a better life.
Maybe you've experienced this before, a point in your life where nothing seems to be moving forward; where everyday is just like the last one. You wake up each morning and nothing has changed.
Because this is a blog about relationships, let's focus on that topic, keeping in mind that this post can be applied to anything in your life that you feel isn't moving forward.
Energy is always in motion. Things never stall or stop moving. But focusing on what isn't going right and what isn't happening gives the impression that things have come to a standstill. In actuality, the momentum is going the opposite direction of where we want to go.
Things can appear as if they are a never-ending revolving door that we are stuck on, going in a circle and wondering when we can get off. We don't realize that it is up to us to make the move to step out when we see the next opening.
Making that move can be difficult because we have been wired, over a long period of time, to believe many untrue things about ourselves and about life. Things like, 'I'm not worthy or I'm not deserving. This is how life is and I might as well accept it.'
We surmise that, seeing as this is what our parents went through, then we must have the same life as well.
But, just like Phil Connors, the change begins within. There's no waiting around for Superman or Wonder Woman to show up to save us or make the decisions for us--we have to save ourselves.
Holding ourselves in that place of what is happening right now, and disliking it for what it is, will not get us to where we want to go. What is happening right now is a creation of what we were focusing on in our past. It's old news already, and, if we keep reading the old news, we will keep getting the old news--until we shift. We have to take this moment and change our perception about our situation, and continue to do so till it becomes dominant in our thinking and emotions.
Knowing that you deserve better, reaching your hand out for something better, and expecting amazing things to come...that is how you leave the revolving door. You keep waking up everyday and choose differently. Choose a different feeling and a different perspective. Wake up with gratitude and appreciation, and the knowledge that you have the choice in the thoughts you think and the emotions you feel.
This is what real power is.
If you are waiting for a sign, then here it is. The moment you started to desire for more in life is your indication that it's time to take a step forward. You can't wait for others to catch up to you, to make the decision for you--you have to decide that you are ready to change something and envision better.
What can you do today to reach for something better?
Namaste.

The Depths of Uncertainty (or Seeing the Upside of Shitty Situations)
Right now, we are going through a major shift in the Universe, and many of us might be feeling slightly discombobulated. I know I have.
Maybe you've seen the end of a relationship, a shake up of a job, changes in your life you weren't expecting, or perhaps you've felt that things have been stuck or stagnant for too long and, well, when is it all going to get better?
As you know, I'm a huge fan of the belief that the energy we give out is what we get back and that we create our own lives; however, I do think that we can be affected by energies around us if we aren't aware of what to do and how to settle ourselves.
But, I digress, because this post is about how to get a handle on your own feelings and emotions when faced with those people who wish to sink your cork. You may have encountered that feeling of a 'fragmented soul' when you have a fight with your spouse/significant other that seems to strip you of your energy. You feel as if they have put another dent in your beautiful heart.
As crappy as these moments are, these moments are the best times to figure out what you truly want. You can either take this moment and turn it over in your brain a thousand times, over-analyze about how much it hurt you, or, you can decide that the other person, as idiotic as you think they are in that moment, is most likely just as afraid as you are.
Change is frightening, and to think that your relationship might be on the brink of destruction will make you grab hold of anything to achieve some sort of balance. Your significant other isn't feeling anything different from you. Just like you, they fear losing control of the situation or that things will change too fast for their liking. Maybe they don't like how the relationship is going and where it's headed, and they don't know how to stop this collision course that it's on.
Just like you, they want change, but they may be fearful to make the change. Or maybe they don't know how to make the change. There's always a lot of work involved when trying to make a difference in your life, which could mean changing belief systems, or changing marital statuses. There is no denying it--these relationship shake-ups are huge.
First, you can't control how other people act. You can only control how you feel and how you act. The other person will always do what they are aligned with, no matter how much you try to control the situation.
When faced with shitty situations such as these, you must redirect your focus. No, it's not putting your head in the sand. It's called thinking outside that box that is already full of stress and sadness.
It's time to get a better view of things, because you can't solve a problem with the same thinking that created it.
So, what is it you want for yourself? Happiness? Stability? Better living situation? Love?
Saying things like, "I want her/him to change" is not the answer because a) You will be sadly disappointed when you realize that you can't make anyone change, and b) You have to accept responsibility for your own actions. Every relationship has two sides to the story.
To make deep changes, you have to start with yourself. You have to look at your role in all of this. What have you been attracting? What have you been thinking and feeling? Have you been loving yourself? Have you been kind to yourself? To others?
You have to understand that the love and respect you seek is within yourself.
So, how do you affect change so these shitty things are few and far between? How do you get on the same page with your spouse? Well, first off, you may or may not get on the same page as your spouse because this is all about vibrational alignment. So, to get change, you have to take a good look at yourself and how you treat you. How do you feel about you? How do you feel about the world? What energy are you sending out there?
We are creatures of habit. We may not even be aware of the vibration that we are sending out because it's become a part of us. But, unknown to you, that vibration could be holding you back. When you've become so accustomed to disagreements with your spouse, you have now made it a dominant vibration--a habit. And, it'll keep happening till you change your vibration about it.
Your spouse has to make the effort too....and they have to want to make an effort. Once you start changing your vibration, they will either match up to your new vibe or they will no longer be a part of your life...it's up to them.
When these shitty things happen, they are a wake up call to you. Notice them. Embrace them. Yes, they happened and they were really freaking shitty. You don't like being in that ugly place, and every time it happens, you feel you lose another part of yourself.
But, here's the thing, you can decide in that moment, right then and there, that you don't want to feel this way anymore.
How?
You become aware of what you are thinking and feeling. You become so attuned to your body and emotions, start adjusting those thoughts and feelings, that change starts to happen.
It will take effort, it will take some creative thinking, and it will take time.
But, dear beautiful friends, your happiness is worth the effort.

Grace and Grieving
The loss of a lover is devastating, especially when you least expect it. Constantly questioning the 'why' of it, and the 'what ifs' will only leave you more confused.
You may question if you’ll ever move on or if you will ever experience any relief from the seemingly unbearable pain in your heart. Unfortunately, relief and healing do not come all at once; it’s a one foot in front of the other type of progression. In one minute, you will be fine, and in the next, you will be sucker punched by grief as it rips your heart out.
So, how do you move on when your loved one transitions to
the non-physical?
1)
Take your time with healing. Don’t let anyone
tell you that it’s time to move on; only you can decide that. They do not know
what you are going through, and everyone has their own pace. First and
foremost, be gentle and loving with yourself.
2)
Make progress. Just like you need the time to
heal, you also need to take steps, big or small, every single day toward
healing. Holding yourself in a place of ‘what if’ or living in the past will
only prolong your pain.
3)
Seek help. If you need someone to talk to, a
counsellor, or even joining a group that will offer the healing support you
need, then do it. However, make sure the group’s purpose is to heal and move forward,
and not linger in pain and longing.
4)
There is always divine timing involved when a
soul transitions. Consider that maybe, just maybe, it's always our individual choice,
whether consciously or unconsciously, when we want to leave this earthly plane.
(For further information on this, I recommend Anita Moorjani’s book “Dying to
be Me.”)
5)
Understand that your lover’s physical body is the
only thing that has died. We are all energy, and energy cannot be destroyed.
Their energy still remains, and always will be. They are limitless, pure positive energy with no constraints.
Remember: Our loved ones are always with us. They are in the pink sunrise
and in an orange sunset. They are a rainy day and a starry night. They are an
October wind that whispers through the trees and they are the quiet on a
peaceful summer morning. They are the gentle touch on your hand and the soft
kiss on your cheek.
When you begin to understand this, you will realize that your heart will go on.
Namaste.

Your Authentic Self
However, we fail to do one important thing: Be true to ourselves. Be authentic. Be who we really are.
Don’t misunderstand me: there is nothing wrong with making a first impression; but make sure that the first impression is who you truly are, and the only way you can do this is by knowing who you really are.
True beauty is the light that shines from within; and before you think that this is all fluffy crap, keep in mind that everything is energy/vibration. When we are attracted to someone, we are attracted to the frequency of that person because it is a match to ours. If you are not being loving to yourself, and don't respect yourself, you will attract someone who will reflect that back onto you.
So, what is being our 'authentic selves'? Being unabashedly who we are. Not putting on a show to impress, but letting our natural light shine and radiate out for the world to see. It means knowing our divine selves. It means knowing that we are love... knowing that we are worthy.
Loving every piece of our perfectly imperfect selves.
Be your beautiful selves, Beautiful People!
Namaste.

You Are Love
Dear Beautiful Souls,
As I'm writing this, I'm wondering how I can impress upon you how amazingly beautiful you are!
Truly, take a look at your fantastic selves!
If you can't see it, then you aren't looking deep enough.
You have come this far and learned so much about life and love. You have made it through times of contrast and adversity, and still, here you are, standing strong and stable on your own two feet.
If you are still beating yourself up because of the past, then stop...it's done. The past only has power if you give it power.
You went through those difficult times to help you grow. Be proud of yourself and how far you have come! It's an amazing thing when we can look back and say, "Ya, that happened, and I know so much more now. I have become better because of it."
Realize that every single day you become better and better; it's all part of this lovely journey that you are on.
Let the path unfold before you in brilliant and luminescent colours of your choice. It always has been your choice. You get to decide if you want to reach for a higher place, or stay staring at what is. Because you are here right now means you want so much more; to reach for better than what you've had.
Are you ready to take the next step and unravel another layer of your beautiful self? Start pulling back the veil and watch what happens. Go deep inside your heart and discover what is lying there waiting for you to awaken it. When you do, the fire within you will grow so brightly that nothing can shake you.
Remember, it's not what you do, how much you have, or where you have been that determines who you are; it's how much you are able to love yourself and love others.
You are, and always have been, full of love.
You are love.
Namaste!

Deep, Beautiful Love
I want to share my story with you so you can see what my thought process is about why I haven’t dated anyone in 30 months... and why you should not settle. Ever.
If you aren’t aware of part of my story, Trevor, my love and my best friend who passed
away on Valentine’s Day 2012. Trevor had been everything: my lover, my
cheerleader, my best friend, my confidante... we grew so much during our time together; always learning and expanding from each other and the
world.
Trevor and I started out as friends, and built a strong
foundation from there. Ours was a deep love based on mutual respect and care.
The connection we had also ran very deep to the point where we could sense each
other’s energy when apart. He sensed when I was having a bad day, or vice
versa. The flow of energy was also easy. I’m not saying that our relationship didn’t
come without adversity or contrast, or that it was perfect; but, when issues arose, we could work it out from a place of love.
Now, here we are, 30 months later, and I haven’t been with anyone. It’s not
because I’ve been in mourning this whole time, or that I am unable to move on;
nope, on the contrary. It’s about discovering who I am; loving myself; healing
myself, and knowing what I want.
If I were to jump into something I only half-heartedly wanted,
the result would be disappointing. Not only would it be unfair to me, but
unfair to the other person.
Someone told me recently that I should get a Tinder account (or something similar), and I almost threw up in my mouth. Maybe there are some people who have
found something lasting on superficial sites such as these, but it's not for
this woman. I want quality, not quantity. But, this isn’t to say that you
can’t find someone on these sites that might be ready for a deep and meaningful
relationship. We are talking about energy here, and what you put out, comes
back. So, have at it if that’s what you are interested in.
However, when you’ve experienced what I’ve experienced, a deep
and beautiful love, you will not want to go back to anything less. You will not
settle.
I know if I were to ‘hook up’ with a man, or pick a man
because he was warm and had a heartbeat, I’d be doing myself a disservice and would
be dishonouring Trevor’s memory. He would not want me to ‘hook up’. He would
want me to be with someone that would be able to give and receive deep love, to be respectful, and to be my best friend as well as my lover.
Now, here’s the take away: If you are looking for a beautiful,
loving relationship, then build a strong foundation first. As much as you want
to sleep with that person, try to take it slower. I have also had the fast
relationship where you sleep together before really knowing each other—and
that ended in divorce.
Get to know each other. Learn about each other. Be best
friends. What a beautiful thing it is
when you can learn from each other without the huge weight of expectation. And, trust me, when you make that deep, beautiful connection, sex will be Off. The. Charts!
I remember distinctly when I knew Trevor was my best friend.
We had been talking and sharing so much that, one day, it was clear to me how important he was. And, not long after that, I knew that I really, really, really loved him.
From that blossomed something beautiful, loving, passionate,
and wonderful.
This is why I never settle.
I wish you much love, beautiful souls.
Namaste.

Stop Struggling!
I’ve been seeing a lot of quotes lately
that indicate that, if there is no resistance on your journey, then you are
making it too easy. If you experience some sort of struggle in whatever you are
journeying towards, (career, relationship, weight loss…etc.) then there is
increased worth in it.
Here are 6 words I want you to remember throughout life:
There is no value in struggle.
If you are experiencing
resistance/struggle, it’s because you are not aligned to your desire and you
have decided to paddle upstream. Life is unfolding before you in the most
beautiful way possible, and you have decided to buck your own current because you don’t believe
the Universe can give you something better than what you have been getting.
Instead, we muck around thinking that pointing our boat upstream is how we get
what we desire. You know that saying: Go with the flow…that’s what life is
supposed to be like. You know that song, Row, Row, Row Your Boat (gently down
the stream)....you get the picture.
An acquaintance of mine said this to me
recently: “We project human failings and shortcomings onto the Universe, and
then expect it to faff (his word) around and let us down in the same way that
humans can do. Change it all with the belief I TRUST GOD/UNIVERSE TO SORT IT
ALL OUT.”
Certainly, there will be contrast on our
journey, but this helps us to expand even more. The point is not to wallow in
the contrast because that’s when you continue to get more of the unwanted.
Realize and know that you want something better than what you are getting and turn toward
that. Realize and know that you deserve something better than what you are getting and turn toward that! Become vibrationally aligned with what you want, keeping in mind it may not come in the physical form that you envision; it will be even better!
It doesn’t mean that what you are doing
won’t have effort involved. Of course it will! Just make it 'enjoyable effort'.
Get aligned with it and make it fun. If it’s causing you pain or sadness,
you’re not aligned with your desire.
Dan Millman said: “Pain is a relatively
objective, physical phenomenon; suffering is our psychological resistance to
what happens. Events may create physical pain, but they do not in themselves
create suffering. Resistance creates suffering. Stress happens when your mind
resists what is... The only problem in your life is your mind's resistance to
life as it unfolds.”
I couldn’t agree more!
Namaste!

Why You are Attracting the Same Types of Relationships
Scenario:
You've recently gotten out of a relationship because the two of you
are no longer jiving. You remember the good old days when you used
to click…but now...well, the Righteous Brother’s song “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling” comes to mind.
You’ve had enough of your ex’s behaviour...and,
quite frankly, it reminds you of your previous relationship with old 'so-and-so'.
You decide to start fresh and find someone that totally gets
you…and you do! You two are connecting, the birds are singing, the planets are
aligning!
Fast forward a few months and you start seeing many similarities
between this person and your previous boyfriend/girlfriend.
So, what gives?
First, everything is energy. This means that like energy
always attracts like energy. Your vibration is matching up with a similar vibration.
When you enter into a new relationship and you discover you’ve
attracted the same thing, except different person, what has happened is your
vibration has not changed. If the last 5 partners have all been eerily
similar, then there is something that you need to work on inside of you to change
your vibration of what you truly want to attract.
Abraham –Hicks calls this 'working a vibrational groove’. You basically have made your current vibration a habit and are now creating by default rather than deliberately. You probably don’t even realize that you are giving off that vibration because you are so used to it.
However, if you don’t like what you are creating, you have
to get deliberate about it, and that means tending to your vibration. You need
to be aware of what is going on inside you.
What are your internal thoughts and feelings about yourself,
about relationships, about your significant other, or what you expect in a
significant other? What are your beliefs regarding relationships? This is the
work.
The work isn’t signing up for an online dating site. The work isn’t
changing your hair colour. The work is going deep within and finding out what
is really going on.
So, what do you do about it? You start by changing your vibe. This means
stop living like it’s the past. Stop replaying all those old scenarios of hurt
and betrayal and confusion. Decide what it is you want. Decide how you want to
feel, and then feel it. Don’t back down from feeling those good feelings.
You really have to be on top of your thoughts and emotions to change to a new
vibration. Once you get into the groove of these new thoughts and emotions,
